Royal [CRAP]

A relatively brief post today announcing the comeback (though I don’t think they ever really left) of designers Tenshi Vielle of [CRAP]/[BOUTIQUE] and Marni Grut of Royal Blue. Starlust ftw!

First up, we’ve got [CRAP]‘s Big Knit, Big Collar. Sure it’s not brand spankin’ new, but it’s a classic piece.  This chunky knit sweater, or in my case – dress, just hits that in-between spot of the thigh so I took the plunge and opted out of pants to create a sassy knit mini.  As with most things, it looks great when paired with jeans and hem length aside this outfit is all about the collar anyway.  Should you decide to go the dress route just be sure to find some cute underwear or glitch pants – commando is only good for still shots!  I added matching patent black boots, shades and belt to give the comfy cozy wool a bit of edge.  Which brings me to my new big, blue, bag.

Bags are a bit of a weakness for me both in-world and out, but add a richly coloured oversize bag with a trademark tiara on it and I *die*.  Royal Blue’s Slouch Pouchy certainly has enough room for all of the stuff we seem to hoard – yes I’ve been looking into all of your blogger challenge bags! In addition to this, Marni has also released a whimsical ruffled collar and is now a bonafide shoe maker as you can see here and here.

All of my Ws and Bs.

A Few Last Hurrahs

A Few Last Hurrahs A Few Last Hurrahs
Gisele Enroulent in Ecru, Armidi Cashmere Sweater (Men’s) in Charcoal, MNK Shop Tweed Pants in Black (two options, grey and black), *MM* Luxe Handbag in Winter Beige, Paper Couture Silk Wrapped Shank Heel in Ash, shu*shu Leather Belt, Muse Eclectic Necklace (retextured, unreleased).

Before the year ends – and the holiday season – be sure to pick up a few bargains at the Creator’s Pavillion annual Winter sale. These four picks range from 30L-90L and there are a lot of other goodies (for men as well). This sweater from Gisele comes with two options for both the body and collar, a “flared” and a slimmer fit, well worth it at half off. The Tweed Half Pants from MNK are very nicely textured with sculpted cuffs, a steal at 50L, and probably my favourite item from this sale. These Tartan Tights from !*G^G*! are only 30L for ten colours and come in a close second :)

Many of the creators’ shops have releases that I’d have liked to cover (especially MNK) but I’m out of time. This will be likely my last post before I get back to working on new releases, so have a Happy New Year and I hope you have a joyful holiday :)

Mind Your P’s and K’s

Sonya Anthony of No Face has been busy with a new name, a new brand, and a new line of fashion.  Now known as Polina Kaestner, her brand Polina-Kaestner creations is slated for opening tomorrow and I have a few of my favourite pieces to share before the main event.

p-k-1

P-K’s sequin tank dress was the first piece in her growing collection and still remains one of my favourite little black dresses.   Sometimes sequins run the risk of being too flashy, but the dress’s monochramtic pallette keeps the overall effect glamourously understated.

The dress also comes with two different prim attachments, and while I’m wearing both for a more voluminous effect, the top one looks great solo with a pair of your favourite jeans for a casual (but not too casual) look.

p-k

The great thing about Polina-Kaestner creations is that even though the selection is small, it’s diverse.  Bags, shoes, jackets, dresses, and tops all contribute to her collective brand leaving me wanting more of everything!

The cable knit texture of the wool sweater is perfect for winter, especially when paired with P-K’s open-front trench.  For a layering junkie like myself, open-front jackets are a must!  And accessorizing was made simple with a classic black handbag and lace-up leather heels.  One stop shopping indeed.

Now, even though the store opens officially tomorrow..
/me whispers: you can get a sneak peak for yourself by clicking here.

Oh, and be sure to join the group (Polina Kaestner creations.) for a special gift to be delivered upon store opening. :)

Rezzables Review

Nivaya Barbosa and SerinaJane Loon of Rezzables were nice enough to feature the Black Swan: Winter Magic Gown in a blog post.

"The strapless bodice is formed of two diagonally overlapping panels, the first of sequinned silk, the second of the most exquisite hand drawn snowflake patterned antique lace, on a golden crème backdrop. At the waist is a black sash, secured with a beautiful jewelled snowflake pendant, and at the neck, an ivory coloured ruffle. The puff skirt is a mass of rumpled stiffened organza, reaching to the floor and spilling out to the sides, and is covered with clever sparkles, which move independently from the main bulk of the skirt and have the rather convincing effect of falling flakes of snow, depending on the angle viewed from."

Series Revisited

First off, let me say that the Halloween freebies were a success. In the end I gave away over 1200 witches and I've seen them pop up here and there on blogs, which makes me happy. I'll definitely make more freebies in the future. For Christmas however, I couldn't manage. School has kept me too busy to work on new products much and I'd started this other project ages ago that I really needed to finish. And I now finally have.

When I made my Fastfood Backpack, it was meant as part of a series. I released the Emergency Burger to go with it as a leg accessory and thought afterwards a belt would be cool as well. I wanted it to be less girly looking than the other two, but still referenced to junk food and my favourite website, ICHC. I decided on a technology theme, yet slightly tongue-in-cheek as usual. After some delay, it's finally here: my Burger Vision Belt.

The best thing on this belt was one of the last to be thought up. I had a general idea of what I wanted before I started sculpting the belt base, but the phone was originally meant as a regular cell phone. I find this much cuter though, and I always love a bit of nostalgia. I'm proud of how it turned out and will in fact use this phone for another project, with some slight modifications. It deserves to stand on its own I think.

I added a kitty button to this belt, like I did with the other products in the series. It's one of the few recurring prims and ties everything together a bit.

I had some fun adding images and text to this diary, even if you can't really see much of it. I like the texturing on the strap as well, and the lighting on all the buttons. Thanks to Gabriel Watanabe the remote actually works. The blue and green buttons turn the corresponding TVs on and off, the red button controls both. I thought a feature like this would be good, since some might get annoyed at the continuous animation loops inside the TV screens (an SL limitation).

The TVs I knew from the start I was gonna add. I wasn't sure if animating them would be feasible, but after some fiddling that worked out better than I could've hoped. Each screen consists of two prims, so that the 'static' moves independently from the actual movies. The footage was shot by me inside The Sims 2.

The belt is overall less 'cutesy' looking than my backpack or leg accessory, but I added some sweet elements nonetheless. The texturing on the hearts turned out quite nice and I made bold, colorful buttons to be used throughout the entire belt.

That's it! The Burger Vision Belt is now available at my two store locations and on Xstreet. I priced it at L$350, which I think is fair considering the amount of work that went into it. I add a lot of detail to my items, which I hope makes them more special and unique. And I personally love highly detailed accessories. The more prims, the merrier =^.^=

On the Fringe

A recent conversation surrounding one of this week’s SLsecrets regarding diversity, or lack thereof, in Second Life had me thinking about the diversity within my own inventory.

I typically don’t stray too far from the avatar or character of Dahlia that I’ve created, at least where hair colour, eye colour, and skin tone are concerned.  The main reason for that simply being continuity, though it’s not unheard of for me to wear variations of any of the aforementioned once in a while.

That being said, while the quantity of choice may not be there for ethnic skins, there is quality to be found.  And what better way to hit the fringe than with GiGi Couture’s soon to be released open front sweaters! Look for them hopefully by the weekend.

My left look isn’t much of a departure from my usual, but the skin itself is made by Aoharu.  While the skin is not noticeably Asian and even lends itself easily to a more European style, the body detailing is so hyperprocessed that it almost resembles high quality manga.  It may be a stretch to call that a cultural feature of the skin, but paired with a wide range of makeups including geisha specific styles, this is a skinline which I feel deserves its place in the quality diversity category.

Beauty Avatar’s latest skin release revealed even more choice and their Diana skin in particular caught my eye as a beautifully diverse option, though the highlighting on the face may not be to everyone’s preference.   I should mention that each of the various skins at Beauty Avatar have a face designed and drawn specifically for that particular tone, no simple re-tinting and re-selling here.  I used the exact same shape for both of the above skins, so the difference in the facial design based on skin alone is remarkable.

I guess my outlook on the whole diversity thing is a bit of a catch22 – because there is less public demand and options for ethnic skins it becomes the minority, but if the opposite were true they would no longer be considered diverse.  I’m the kind of girl who often likes things to be under the radar.  If you’ve ever been pissed off to hear your favourite song on a cd announced as the artist’s new single then you know what I mean.  Embrace your diversity and be happy it is exactly that – diverse!

Oh, and speaking of embracing.. Giana Paine has struck boho gold with these upcoming sweaters.  They will be available in 4 textures, each with a fringe/no fringe option (who says no to fringe?) so they are sure to add a bit of diversity to your winter wardrobe.  Definitely my favourite piece of her expanding line thus far.

Fabulous New Prosthetic Feet from Stiletto Moody!

Hello darlings, Swirly here! Did you know that Stiletto Moody was the FIRST person to introduce sculptie shoes to Second Life? Swirly didn't, and thought it was someone else entirely, until Stiletto herself set the record straight on that. Phew!

Now onto the review. Swirly was VERY excited about this new release from Stiletto that has not only been hailed as the greatest advancement in technology to ever hit the SL grid, but is also very reminiscent of Swirly's all time favourite television show!

Ahh Dexter! Luckily for those who have suffered similar fates to that pictured above, Stiletto Moody has come to the rescue with a range of divine prosthetic feet that even include shoes! Fortunately, Swirly has never suffered a mishap that has resulted in the loss of a precious foot, but she still couldn't resist purchasing one of these prosthetics for herself. Just look at them darlings!

These marvelous replacement feet and shoes look even better close up. Now bear in mind that you will need to adjust them yourself, but thanks to the technologically advanced menu system, it shouldn't take you more than a few hours to get a close approximation of your skin tone. After seven hours of blood, sweat and tears , Swirly decided that close enough was good enough. And here is the result, fabulous wouldn't you agree darlings?

Swirly noticed a slight gap at the ankle but has been assured that this is just an "invisiprim" issue and is nothing to worry about, her foot hasn't actually been severed. It's certainly not something that would put you off paying 1899L for a pair of these!

Swirly's favourite part of these fabulous feet is the succulent toes, such delicate little sausages. Swirly isn't sure if they are edible but will be sure to find out later when she procures the appropriate condiments. They certainly look tasty from here!

All in all, Swirly would have to agree that these new prosthetics are THE greatest thing to hit the SL grid, if not the world. As with all Stiletto Moody releases, they include bling AND that fabulous horse clomping sound to really set you apart from the crowd. Swirly highly recommends that you buy them, even if you aren't an amputee.

Winter in Grey

This season once again brings us a variety of beautifully made prim coats – only this year the choices for open coats, jackets and blazers are plentiful where they were once scarce. Everyone may have these but it is up to you to put a personal spin on your coat of choice, and these two – the Pinstripe Blazer from Armidi, and the Mimi Coat from Cachet’s winter line – are my picks for this month.

I’d been searching for an open sculpted blazer the previous week (a texture-only open blazer is still a rare thing, let alone a sculpted one) to complete an outfit I had based on a shot of the very chic Ai Tominaga, when Armidi released these. SL still lacks a great many ingredients for those who like to mix and match subtler key pieces, among them unbuttoned cardigans on all layers and shirts with loosely sculpted bottoms, so I just made do with this shirt from E. Watkins, thanks to the help of Voshie Paine. For the lacy undershirt I used the Ericka top from Archange, threw on a scarf from Cubic Effect and the versatile high-waisted jeans from Blaze. I slimmed down the prim flares for a more up-to-date silhouette and added a pair of quirky strappy flats from Aura. I think the unusual design of these shoes adds a great deal of character to a subtle outfit. Note that like the shoes I featured previously the highlighting on these is a trifle bright. A leather bag and watch complete the ensemble.
smaccessories1smaccessories2

For the second outfit I’d been meaning to put something better together for this coat, which is my favourite piece from the Cachet winter line. Several others have posted the exact same coat, so I apologise if this is getting a little repetitive. I was too pleased with the result not to include it however – I’d been seeing these sculpted cropped-leg pants from Coco on SLMaMe for the better part of a week, and instead of using the wide-leg pants from CE that everyone else’s been wearing I thought to lengthen them to suit what I had in mind, to end just above the ankle. Note that the pants have a texture gap on clients prior to RC 1.22 because of the way sculpted prims are handled; changing the sculpted prim type to torus rather than cylinder in the building editor will fix this. Cocoro has taken note of this, but for those of you who already bought the pants, the above solution should work. I was iffy on matching this with the ribboned version of the Kavika shoe from Pixel Mode (which is a great value by the way, as, like most of the newer PM shoes, it comes with an extra pair) but as with the first ensemble I thought the more unusual choice would add more interest to the outfit. If you don’t want to bump into clones wearing the same coats I suggest saving these for a rainy day – they are too good to pass up. Dela also has a new open coat that I had no time to include in this post, but is another worth taking note of.

Guild of Crie

The second part of the post has to do with the newer releases from a little-known eyewear shop known as Guild of Crie. I believe they’ve been posted of before but thought their newest offerings were worth noting in this blog, especially as they offer some of the tiniest intricate primwork I’ve seen, on very unique and elegant pieces. I always appreciate such prim craftsmanship and attention to detail, and it’s my pleasure to include these monocles from Grazioso Alekseev in this post.
Subtle Touches And Needful Things Subtle Touches And Needful Things
The first style, the =GC-Monocle (Dark-Knight clock)= is my favourite from this store. Elegant and intricately detailed, it’s worth collecting for the beautiful primwork alone; note the tiny gems in the clock face are separate prims, meticulously arranged. This monocle features a functioning clock that can be set to any timezone. All of Guild of Crie’s timepiece-style eyewear appear to have this feature.

Subtle Touches And Needful ThingsThe second style I’m featuring here is the no less gorgeous exclusive version of the Guildio monocle, available only at the new Magic of Oz sim. This is a fantastic piece – note the pair of ruby slippers textured in miniature along the top of the monocle and the emerald inlay, in keeping with the Wizard of Oz theme. Just as remarkable as the first monocle, it’s a fine example of Grazioso’s painstaking attention to detail and commitment to his craft.

The third piece I had the chance to review was the Flugel – a pair of quaint and yet very wearable spectacles that were inspired by the elegance of the piano as a classical instrument. The lenses and frames – separate parts including temples – are all colour-changeable (the colour names are in Japanese). I found this pair worked well with everyday styles as well as more formal or Victorian wear.

We’re Blazed

From the slopes of Canada to the pubs of Boston, the shoparmidi.com Classic Pinstripe Blazer proves to be a versatile fashion staple for fashionistas and fashionistos alike.

In general, Nic and I have a similar approach to fashion though our individual tastes can vary from one outfit to the next.  Keeping that in mind, we’ve created two completely different themes with our respective blazers, and with a vast array of colours available they are sure to add a finishing touch to many future outfits.

dahlicequeenThey say you can take the girl out Canada..

Well, I wish I could be taken out of Canada (at least my neck of the woods) for tomorrow anyway.  We have a forecasted high of -41 Celsius with the windchill, ugh.   Luckily in SL® we get to enjoy the visual beauty of winter without the frostbite, so while this outfit certainly wouldn’t cut it RL, it can take me year-round on the grid.

Silver, whites, and greys have really set the tone for the season imo, and it’s so easy to blend them from one creator to the next.  New designs from Cachet help to round this outfit out, in particular the Marianne Tartan skirt.  Being that Dahlia is a shorter av (though she’s grown), I rarely wear long skirts, but the texture, volume, and hemline of this suits me just fine and it’s season appropriate.  Win win!

It’s no secret that Nic lives in Florida, but having spent a good amount of time in Boston I think that’s where he hangs his proverbial hat.  With pubs a plenty, he decided upon a self-professed “Irish Hooligan” ensemble.  I don’t know much about the hooligan part, but that outfit is sure to garner him some Irish luck.

Green is one of my favourite colours on Nic and this blazer is no exception.
Especially when paired with classic denim, earthy brown accents, and a sternum baring tee – yum!  This look is great because it can effortlessly take you from night to day, but judging by his photo background of choice I doubt he’ll remember much of either.  Cheers!

A Public Service Announcement from Swirly

Hello darlings, Swirly here! Complaints have been received about some of Swirly's old posts dominating the various feeds. Swirly really wishes she could take responsibility for this but alas, this is only a Blogger glitch that is causing feeds to pick up numerous old posts from blogs hosted on Blogspot. The more intelligent amongst you may have observed that unfortunately this has happened with a number of lesser blogs, not just Swirly's.

So what is the solution to this dreadful problem? How can it be fixed so that Swirly's old posts dominate the feeds every single day, allowing you to enjoy a 100% Swirly fashion feed 24 / 7? Swirly is pleased to announce that she is currently in negotiations with Carissa Crimson to ensure that the Fashion Feed of SL only contains posts by Swirly. All blogs other than Fashion Victim will be removed from that feed in the near future. This will ensure that readers are only exposed to quality content i.e. beautiful pictures of Swirly. Negotiations will also occur with Tao to ensure that the Fashion World of SL feed is 100% Swirly. Swirly knows that you will all be very excited about these major changes to your favourite feeds, and looks forward to her continuing domination of the SL fashion scene.
